Debates 1/10/2012
Today in AVID we had a debate about racism. To me i agree with everyone, i think that us as black people degrade ourselves by listening to the things that we do and acting on it. We as African American's have a habit of hyping up situation that already make us look bad. Instead of rappers rapping about real life things and encouraging kids to go to school and becoming better people, they are rapping about illiterate things like being in a gang and or living in the hood. I think that there is nothing special about living in the projects and repping it as if it is what defines you. Yes i am from the city and yes my parents were born and raised in park heights, but whats so special about it? Is the hood helping you with anything, is it paying your bills, is it helping you in school, and or is it getting you through college? I think Not!! I think some people just like to say it because they think that it is cool and i am willing to bet that none of those kids who say that they are from the projects, would last a whole day there. My mother moved to the county in order to give me and my siblings a better education. And us as African American's cannot expect to get things handed to us just because of our skin tone, but because we worked hard for it.
