Intern Report.....Day 23, 9/30/2011

Day 22, 9/29/2011

Do I really look that young? Everywhere I go everyone asks me "How old are you?" and I say "I'm 17" and then they just look at me as if they are appalled and then they say "Wow I thought you were 14" and then my favorite one is "LOL I thought you was a freshman."And then I just look at them like there crazy. It is really annoying to think that everyone else thinks that you look young. And on my accord that can be a good and a bad thing. The good is that I know that I am aging gracefully. The bad thing is that some people may not take me seriously and they may only take me as a joke.

Mental Retardation Day 20, 9/27/2011

My cousin Anthony David Jones, was born with mental retardation. To furthermore explain, Anthony was born a premature baby and he was also born with a tumor in his head which lead the disease. Throughout my cousins life he had to repeatedly get surgery on his head because he would oftenlly have seizure's. Anthony also had the privilege to have Dr. Ben Carson work on his head at a point in time. Anthony is now 17 years old  and he is overweight because of all of the medication he takes; my grandparents (Mary and George Witherspoon) take care of Anthony because his mother (Sherry Witherspoon) was murdered, when he was a young. Mental retardation is a condition diagnosed before age 18 that includes below-average general intellect; and also lack of skill necessary for daily life. Day 19 9/26/2011

Today in my English 12 honors class we were assigned to read a short persuasive story about a guy who proposed an idea that if their community ate their children it would lower the poverty rate. Back in the day Ireland was known for it's poverty. So one day this guy proposed that the women should have children and nurture and take care of them (making them all fatty and delicious), so that they can sell and eat them. He stated that it could help their melancholy beggar's and it will boost the poor people and at least making them middle class. He also stated that if people began to eat their children it would lower there population and also it could give the poor people a reason not to starve.

My uncles going way party..... Day 18 9/25/2011

Today was my uncles going away party. Before we went to celebrate him going to trade school in Kentucky me and my sister thought that it would be funny if we took some silly pictures. My uncle is going away to Kentucky for eleven months to attend a trade school there. We are so proud of him; he is the youngest out of all of my Nana's children. My uncle Deshaun is going on 21 years old and he is deciding to do something with his life although he has a son already who is about to turn two years old. My uncle has persevered through a lot of tough things though out his life, whether it was from have a child while in high school, to getting seriously injured which disabled him from playing football.(Which was one o his favorite hobbies).

Worst Day ever....Day17 9/24/2011

Today was the worst day ever. I woke up with a shock of pain; and not only that , but I had to do my brothers hair. When my brother wants his hair done he can be very picky and precise and it can be very annoying. But what made my day even worse was that I had forgotten that I had to read the hope in the unseen so now I am rushing to read up to chapter ten.......

Drought.....day 14, 9/21/2011

Drought is the best book I have ever read. Drought is the haunting story of one community's thirst for life, and the dangerous struggle of the only girl who can grant it. Overall Drought is an amazing book about a girl who thirst for life while her community is enslaved by a cruel man named Darwin West. Darwin thinks that the water that the community have holds a gift of everlasting life, but little does he know that Rudy's blood is what grants everlasting life and it heals wounds. So he is using them to gather the water so that he can sell it to people. Darwin West has Rudy and her family living as if it was 1812. This book is amazing and I would recommend it to everyone. The author name is Pam Bachorz.

Shocking surprise Day 11, 9/17/2011

Today was the day that I was shocked to hear that my grandfather Robert Jackson has prostate cancer. We have no idea how bad it is right now but we hope and pray that he will be ok. So to make him feel better we had a little gathering at my NaNa's house.
"About 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. More than 2 million men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point are still alive today.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. About 1 man in 36 will die of prostate cancer."

Enzyme Activity Day 10, 9/16/2011

Yesterday we worked on a lab about enzymes.

Socratic Seminar Day 9, 9/15/2011

I would rate my performance as a 6 out of 10 because I wasn't really prepared and I worked on the Socratic questioning a day before it was due. I would rate my contributions in the inner circle as a seven out of ten because I asked two questions within the circle and I answered the question that was asked by Jordan. I would rate the level of teamwork as a eight out of ten because within the circle everyone didn't have questions so they kind of went with the flow and also some of team members didn't have a chance to say anything.  Th next time we have an Socratic Seminar I will complete my questions the day off and I will also take some time out of my day so that I can read the book and not just scan through the text.

I would rate our group preparation as an seven out of ten because once again everyone wasn't prepared and they kind of went with the flow. I would rate the quality of the conversation as a eight out of ten because everyone had an idea of what they were talking about. I would rate the team work as a eight out of ten because some of our team members weren't participating and or they didn't have a chance to participate.

Day, 7, 9/12/2011

In memory of 9/11:

United We Stand!
This is a story of a historic event,
And this is the way that it went.

An airplane crashed thru building one,
Next thing people know two was done.

Now both buildings down of the twin towers,
While people wait for hours and hours.

They watch the police and firefighters strive,
And see if their loved ones are still alive.

Now there are two lights where the towers once stood,
And they shine very bright thru the neighborhood.

This event did not break apart the U.S.A.,
Because we are closer and closer to each other everyday.

Day 5, 9/10/11

                                                    (Tristan Jaden Demaine Jones)

Today I took a break from my college search because I have found the top two schools that I really want to go to. And they are UMES and Hood College, but I am still somewhat open to other schools. So Today I went to the market with my mother and we then visited my aunt and my baby cousin who just turned a month a couple of weeks ago and I then found out that poor Tristan has acid reflex and he was choking which scared me. So my mother had to hit him on the back so than he can clearly breathe and then he constantly kept throwing up. But in the end he was ok and my aunt just have to keep a close eye on him. (I will keep him in my prayers)

Reading A hope in The Unseen... Day 4, 9/8/2011

Today I read some chapters of the book tha we were assigned which is caled A Hope in The UNSEEN. Overall I really like this book, I think it has an amazing plot and I also like the way that they protrayed one of te main caracters named Cedric Jennings as being smart, sarcastically humorous, afraid, and also goal oriented. Cedric Jennnings is an high school junor who attends Ballou High and it talks about how he is very academically intelligent and how he is not afraid to stick up for himself. Ceric Jennings shows that he is not going to be a product of his enviorment. ( to be continued)........

Stress... Day 3, 09.7.2011

Just a couple of minutes ago I just got finished having an one on one conversation with my mother, about the importance for me to start applying for scholarships and looking at colleges that interest my major. My mother told how I was going to be a role model to all of my younger siblings and my cousins by achieving what I worked hard for. To furthermore explain, I may be the only girl on my mother side of the family that will actually go to college, rather than my older male cousins because they are either in gang related problems and or they just don't want to do anything with their lives just righ away. And all of this puts pressure on me because everyone in my family is looking at me to be the one to step up to the plate and take the challenge of going to college and finishing (I'm not saying that I don't want to go to college), but it is hard when everyone is looking up to you. So I went online to start looking at different colleges and scholarships, that are related to  my major (which is forensic science). Some of the colleges that I found with my major in it are: Towson University, University of Maryland University College, Kaplan University, Stevenson University, and College of Notre Dame (which I already started the application process).

College.......

All through out last weekend I was stressed because of all the Colleges that I wanted to apply to didn't have the major that I wanted to study which is Forensic Science. And not only that, but when I viewed all of my top five colleges which I wanted to attend, the tuition costs as much as an arm and an leg. Everyone in my family is trying to be supportive by saying that they would be their for me no matter what and that they would help by sending me scholarship  information that would interest me. But in reality I'm all on my own because they aren't going to be the ones who is going to fill out the college applications, their also not going to be the ones who have to apply for these scholarships, and finally they aren't going to be the ones who are going to receive acceptance letters in the mail and or denial letters.
